About The Road AHEAD

The Road AHEAD is a leadership management programme which may be tailored to your requirements, and may be deployed as a purely online training programme or as part of a mentoring programme where participants are given a mentor from amongst the more experience staff and the programme operates in blended mode.

The five components of The Road AHEAD are:

1. Reflect on your current needs

This step is facilitated by materials that are designed to take you on a reflective journey to help you review your current proficiency levels in each of twelve core competency areas, derived from industry standard leadership development programmes

At the end of this journey, you will be better equipped to assess your development needs which is the task that forms the next stage of The Road AHEAD

2. Audit your current needs

Based upon your reflections, you can audit your development needs against one of two roles to which you may aspire:

As an autonomous Professional

An autonomous professional operates without close supervision and can handle most situations and problems that will be encountered in the role.

As a team leader/manager/mentor

You direct other people in this competency area and help them solve the unusual problems they encounter.
Your job role will be as a manager, team leader, or mentor to other experienced staff

Alternatively, you may divert from The Road AHEAD at this point and complete an online qualification with our friends at Bespoke Training

3. Learn to fill the gaps

The Road AHEAD needs audit will highlight the areas where you need development in the twelve competency areas:

  • What it takes to be a manager
  • Being a leader
  • Coaching and Feedback
  • Recruitment and Induction
  • Time Management
  • Team Working
  • Setting and Managing Objectives
  • Public Speaking
  • Resource Management
  • Problem Solving
  • Quality Management
  • Innovation

4. Learning how to carry on learning –
from work and from life

Learning and developing is an ongoing process. It’s not just about learning once and then stopping. It’s a lifelong journey.

Once you have addressed your specific competency needs, then the next step down The Road AHEAD is to learn how to learn from work and life.

In this step you will learn about your learning style and how to reflect upon your experiences to gather higher value implicit knowledge

And all this is facilitated by your online learning diary…

Your learning diary is your record of your professional development activity. You can make notes store files and links to resources as you progress down The Road AHEAD

And finally – the Road AHEAD includes online training for those staff acting as mentors as well
